A hotel hair dryer fitting inside a guest-room drawer does not mean the complete installation configuration is ready for approval.
The dryer still needs to be removed, used, returned, cleaned and eventually replaced under actual room conditions. The cord, holder, anti-theft fitting and electrical connection must work with the drawer—not simply fit inside it.
For procurement and engineering teams, three decisions should be recorded separately: whether the product functions correctly, whether the complete configuration fits and works with the drawer, and whether the intended bulk-order configuration matches what was tested.
A standard product sample may answer the first question. It does not automatically answer the other two.
Use this checklist before sample approval, installation testing or bulk-production confirmation. For a shorter review of storage space and day-to-day use, see the hotel hair dryer drawer storage checklist.
1. Record the Intended Project Configuration
Before testing, record the version the hotel is actually considering for installation. These details establish the standard against which the sample will be reviewed.
Product
- ☐ Dryer model and dimensions
- ☐ Rated power
- ☐ Voltage and frequency
- ☐ Speed and heat settings
- ☐ Product color and label requirements
Cord and electrical connection
- ☐ Local plug type
- ☐ Cable end, terminal or fixed-wiring requirement
- ☐ Straight or coiled cord
- ☐ Relaxed and extended cord length
- ☐ Cable outlet and connection position
Installation and storage
- ☐ Drawer internal dimensions
- ☐ Holder or storage structure
- ☐ Anti-theft arrangement
- ☐ Intended guest-use position
- ☐ Intended bulk-order configuration

2. Compare the Sample and Bulk-Order Configurations
The sample should represent the intended bulk-order configuration as closely as practical.
One particularly important difference is the power connection. A sample may use a local plug for testing, while the bulk order may require a cable end, terminal or fixed electrical connection. Testing the plug-in sample confirms the operation of that sample. It does not automatically confirm the intended fixed-wiring configuration.
The two versions should therefore be recorded separately. The final connection method should also be reviewed by the hotel engineering team or qualified local installation personnel.
- ☐ Is the sample the same model as the intended bulk product?
- ☐ Are the rated power, voltage and frequency the same?
- ☐ Does it use the intended cord type and length?
- ☐ Are the intended holder and anti-theft components included?
- ☐ Are the color, labels and relevant accessories recorded?
- ☐ Have all differences been listed in writing?

3. Test the Complete Drawer Fit and Guest-Use Process
Test the actual dryer together with its cord, holder, fixing and intended connection components. Use the confirmed drawer dimensions or a representative mock-up if the final furniture is not yet available.
The stated cord length is only a product specification. It does not confirm the effective working range after the cord has been routed, secured or connected inside the drawer. For a coiled cord, both its relaxed storage length and practical extended reach should be evaluated.
Drawer fit
Approval should not be based only on the external dimensions of the dryer. The product may fit while its cord, holder or connection components do not.
- ☐ Are the internal length, width and height recorded?
- ☐ Is there enough space for the dryer, holder, cord and connection components?
- ☐ Can all components be placed inside without force?
- ☐ Can the drawer close completely?
- ☐ Could the cable become trapped when the drawer closes?
- ☐ Does opening or closing the drawer pull on the cable or connection point?
- ☐ Can the dryer be removed without disturbing the holder or electrical components?
- ☐ Can the dryer be replaced without modifying the drawer?
Guest-use process
A drawer-stored dryer should be removed from the enclosed drawer before use so that its air inlet and outlet remain unobstructed. Test the complete sequence below.
- 1. Open the drawer.
- 2. Remove the dryer.
- 3. Move it to the intended mirror or use position.
- 4. Operate it without blocking the air inlet or outlet.
- 5. Switch it off.
- 6. Return the dryer and cord to the storage position.
- 7. Close the drawer completely.
- ☐ Can guests remove and return the dryer comfortably?
- ☐ Can the dryer reach the intended use position?
- ☐ Does the cord cross an inconvenient path?
- ☐ Does a coiled cord require excessive stretching?
- ☐ Does the anti-theft fitting restrict normal use?
- ☐ Does pulling the cord place pressure on the holder, furniture or connection point?
- ☐ Can the drawer close without trapping the cord?
4. Confirm the Electrical Installation Plan
The electrical configuration should match the destination market and the hotel’s installation plan.
The supplier can confirm the product and agreed factory configuration. The hotel engineering team or qualified local installer should confirm whether the site connection and installation method are suitable.
Product approval should not be treated as approval of the room’s electrical installation.
- ☐ Site voltage and frequency
- ☐ Sample plug type
- ☐ Bulk-order plug, cable end, terminal or fixed-wiring method
- ☐ Cable outlet position
- ☐ Available space for the connection components
- ☐ Cord entry and strain-relief arrangement
- ☐ Responsibility for local installation
- ☐ Requirement for a qualified local electrician
- ☐ Hotel engineering approval
5. Test the Holder and Anti-Theft Arrangement
The selected holder and security structure should be tested with the actual dryer and drawer layout.
A standard holder should not be assumed to fit every dryer model or furniture structure.
“Anti-theft” should also be recorded as a physical configuration. The project documents should identify the component used, its fixing position and how it affects normal guest use.
- ☐ Does the holder fit the selected model?
- ☐ Is it intended for storage, security or both?
- ☐ Is the anti-theft fitting connected to the dryer, cord, holder or furniture?
- ☐ Can guests use the dryer without removing the security fitting?
- ☐ Does the security point reduce the effective cord reach?
- ☐ Could repeated pulling place stress on the fixing or electrical connection?
- ☐ Does the holder interfere with drawer movement?
- ☐ Can the holder and dryer be replaced separately?
6. Check Cleaning and Complete-Unit Replacement
The installation must remain accessible after approval.
For many hotel projects, replacing the complete dryer may be more practical than asking local staff to open and repair internal electrical components.
The important point is to make sure that complete-unit replacement does not require changes to the drawer, holder or electrical installation.
- ☐ Can the dryer housing and holder be cleaned easily?
- ☐ Can the air inlet or removable filter be accessed, where applicable?
- ☐ Can the cord be inspected for visible wear or damage?
- ☐ Can the dryer be removed without modifying the drawer?
- ☐ Can applicable external accessories be supplied separately?
- ☐ Can a complete replacement unit be installed using the approved holder and connection arrangement?
- ☐ Do spare units match the approved voltage, cord, color and electrical configuration?
7. Record the Final Approval
A single statement saying “sample approved” is not detailed enough for a drawer-installation project. The approval record should distinguish the following decisions.
Product approval
- ☐ Product model and specifications confirmed
- ☐ Product functions tested
- ☐ Product sample approved
Drawer and guest-use approval
- ☐ Drawer dimensions confirmed
- ☐ Complete configuration fits
- ☐ Dryer can be removed, used and returned comfortably
- ☐ Air inlet and outlet remain unobstructed during use
- ☐ Cord routing and effective reach approved
- ☐ Drawer closes without trapping the cable
Installation approval
- ☐ Holder position approved
- ☐ Anti-theft arrangement approved
- ☐ Electrical connection method approved
- ☐ Cleaning and replacement access approved
- ☐ Site installation reviewed by the responsible engineering personnel
Bulk-order approval
- ☐ Differences between the sample and bulk order recorded
- ☐ Final cord and electrical configuration confirmed
- ☐ Holder and anti-theft components confirmed
- ☐ Remaining actions assigned and completed

Approve the Complete Configuration, Not Only the Product
Bulk production should not be approved while critical differences in the drawer dimensions, cord routing, electrical connection, holder or anti-theft structure remain unresolved.
A working sample confirms that the product can operate under the tested conditions. Complete project approval must also confirm that the dryer can be stored, removed, used, secured, cleaned and replaced as intended in the hotel room.
The final project record should identify the dryer, cord, holder, power connection, security method and installation position as one matched configuration.
